Its compact growth habit, reaching a height of around 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) and a spread of 3-4 feet (90-120 cm), makes it suitable for borders, rock gardens, and containers. Its vibrant blue flowers make a delightful contrast against green foliage, and when planted in mass, they create a striking visual impact. In early or mid-spring cut back the flowered shoots to within 2.5cm (1in) of the old growth, and after pruning apply a generous mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
