Stipa gigantea
Golden oat grass
Stipa gigantea is a herbaceous perennial of which the most distinguishing feature is its size, as it can reach impressive heights of 5 to 7 feet (1.5 to 2.1 meters) with a similar spread. The clumping nature of this grass creates an attractive fountain-like form, with arching, slender, and feathery panicles that sway gracefully in the wind. The inflorescences emerge in late spring or early summer, presenting a golden hue that illuminates the landscape, hence its common name “Golden Oat grass.”
